We are already a Wilde house, but are we going to be a nut house too?

So after waiting 11 month the day is finally here!  Shiloh and Quinn are going for their allergy testing today.  With the family history of my mother in law, and until recently my husband having a nut allergy, and with Quinn having asthma and eczema we are almost sure that Quinn will be allergic to peanuts.  (at least according to his pediatrician.)  I don't really have any worries about Shiloh, other than maybe dairy.  Do they even test for dairy?
I'm a bit nervous.  I don't know what to expect, or how the allergy test will be performed.  I know that they do it on either the back or the inside of the for arm, but other than that I don't know much.  I'm excited, but a protective mom.
Check back later today for the verdict!

The whole story. The good the bad the ugly

First off, want to say that all is well and we are home from the hospital.

Like you know from reading my past posts, the kids have been sick.  Seemed like a yucky tummy flu/gastro.  This all started at 2am Monday morning with Quinn vomiting in his bed.  The day was filled with both he and Shiloh not being able to keep anything down.  It wasn't until their bed time that we were concerned.  Once they both developed a fever, Sean and I decided to take them to the hospital.  Fast forward 2 days.  (the whole story was written in a past post called I hate vomit)
It was Wednesday afternoon when the doctor from the emergency room called out home to check on the kids.  (can you say amazing doctor?!)  When we told him that Shiloh seemed to be feeling better, but Quinn was still very lethargic without having a fever, he said to bring him right back for him to reassess and see if maybe he missed anything.  So I did.  After seeing him and talking on the phone to a pediatrician from a different hospital, he decided that it would be the best idea for me to take him over to see that doctor, and that he would be able to treat him maybe in a better way since he's a infant/child doctor.  Oh, I forgot to mention that I was alone with Quinn since Sean had stayed home with Shiloh.  Got Quinn back to the van, and damn it we had an empty gas tank!  Had to go and get gas.
Back on our way across town to the other hospital.  Because he wasn't feeling well I was talking to Quinn and kept asking if he was OK.  I would always get a "yes momma" from him.  We were about 3 minutes from reaching the hospital when I heard a funny crunch noise you can make with your throat.  (hard to explain)  I asked him again, "you OK sweetie?" when he didn't answer I looked back and saw that he was having a seizure.  OMG!  My little boy is having a seizure!....pull over, 4 ways, grab blackberry call 911, while it was dialing jump out of the car, open door grab him out, OMG he's as stiff as a board and shaking, screaming at the 911 operator for help, frantically flag down a car, ppl come running, lady takes him, trying to stop crying enough to tell the operator what's going on, lady gets in my car with Quinn, she says he stopped shaking and is sucking thumb, man is trying to calm me down, call Sean and he yells omg, I'm on my way, seeming like a life time for the ambulance to come, finally they come, Quinn is taken in to the back, questions questions questions, hand my keys over trustingly to man to drive my van to the hospital for me, Quinn worries the paramedic by stiff arms that are in the position that one might look like while having a seizure (you know, arms bent straight up and stuck against chest with hands facing inward), I freak out get moved to the front seat so we can leave, get to the hospital.

Whew, now all of the normal stuff that you think would happen happens.  Quinn gets an IV which was horribly traumatizing for the little guy.  Wait for doctor.  He gets there checks him over, says he needs some more tests and that he will be moved to the pedi floor for a 3-4 night stay.  My parents get there a few minutes before we move.  Because they still didn't know what caused his seizure for the transfer we all had to suit up in special gowns, gloves, masks, the whole deal!  We looked so funny walking with Quinn laying in the bed passed out suited up, Shiloh sitting the edge of his bed suited up, Sean, my parents, the nurse, myself all suited up walking through the hospital.
We are put in to a isolation room and told all of the hospital procedures.  I did a quick trip home to pack a bag and Shiloh to bed.  My mom stayed with her.  Back to the hospital and Sean heads home to get some sleep.  I can't sleep so it was a long night.  At 4:30am Quinn starts to wake up and asks for a cuddle, by 5:00am he wants some juice and demands to watch a show on the TV.  Thank God.
For the next 24 hours he slowly starts to come back to being my normal little man.  Doctor decides that even though he is doing so much better, he wants to keep him for another day/night because he had a seizure.  Poor guy, Thursday was filled with tummy cramps and...well, you know.  Still, he wants to play and have books read to him.  He seems OK, so I finally feel OK to head home for a few hours sleep.  Sean stays the night and I go home for a few hours.
Friday 6am and more blood work is done.  We notice that Quinn is covered in red spots.  Common!
Doctor comes and says that the spots are just the way that some kids bodies react at the end of a nasty virus and say that he can go home!  He is concerned why he had the seizure though.  He said that he saw at least 100 kids come through this winter with the tummy flu, but Quinn was the only one who had a seizure because of it.  He wants us to see Endocrinologyst since he is concerned that he Quinn isn't processing his sugar properly.  He said that when someone gets sick and doesn't eat/drink for a few days, the body will then resort to turning the bodies fat in to sugar to keep the blood sugar level.  Quinn's didn't.  So, he thinks, maybe hypoglycemia?
So we will be seeing a specialist sometime in the near future, but until then we just have to make sure that he eats small frequent meals and keep those sugars up!

All I can say is the past week has been horrible, and the most stressfull thing I have ever been through.  I should be back now, and will keep you up to date as to what's going on with the Wilde-ones health.

Is it time to celebrate?

Shiloh seems like she might be out of the woods.  I'm not holding my breath or anything, but she seems back to her normal happy self.

Now, I would like to rewind here for a minute.
A couple of weeks ago both Shiloh and Quinn had head and chest colds.  It was when Quinn started to complain of his ear hurting that I took them in to the doctor.  At our doctors office they often have  medical residents working with them, since it is a teaching facility.  I don't have a problem with seeing a resident since it is important for them to learn, and hey, this way you get two doctors checking on you.  So, the resident that day right away noted that Quinn had a double ear infection, and that was confirmed by out doctor when he had a look.  The resident also noted that Shiloh had one ear that looked very red.  When our doctor had a look, Shiloh went crazy and fought him off and I really don't think that he got a very good look.  He said that he thought that she was fine, and didn't write up a prescription for her.  Just Quinn.  Since then their colds have cleared up, but she has been super cranky and hard to be around.  Not like herself at all.  So fast forward to now, the poor girl has a double ear infection (found out at the hospital last night when we brought them in for other symptoms).  So what I am thinking is that the poor little monkey has has an ear infection this whole time!  My god, I feel so bad :(  Well they are both on antibiotics, and I hope that we get these ear infections and their bad case of gastro cleared up quickly.

Quinn seems better as far as the puking gos, but he had a gravol in his apple sauce this morning.  Poor thing has been sleeping for 4 hours now on the sofa.  I think the gravol his knocked the poop right out of him.  His little body has been through so much the past few days, I think letting him sleep away the day might just be the best thing for him.
Wish us well and check back soon.

You oww me!

We ended up going back to the hospital tonight.  The ER doctor that we saw last night said that if things didn't clear up and the kids didn't seem to be on the mend by noon today that we should go back in to see him.  Today the kids seemed like they were "ok", and that they might be on the track back to health, but that all went down hill around dinner time.  Their fevers started to climb back up again, and Quinn started to vomit.  Again.
We went back, and unfortunately the same triage nurse that worked last night wasn't on duty yet.  Don't get me wrong the nurse we saw was nice enough (and a twin mom to b/g twins herself) but she didn't have the same understanding and urgency that the night before nurse had.  She had us have a seat to wait.  Wait we did.  Quinn started to vomit, and the nurse thought that then would be the perfect time to try and give him some Tylenol.  Not so much, that just made him even more sick.  Did she do anything about it?  Oh, well she did bring him a towel.  Yeah, thanks.  It wasn't long after that that he passed out.  And when I say passed out, I mean the boy looked lifeless.  I lost my mind.  This is when the cool and calm, handling all of this so well momma, came undone.  My loud crying and a few choice words had us back and in to a bed within 5 minutes.  Don't mess with a momma and her babies!!  I will rip your face off if necessary.
So once in the back, the normal checking and probing began.  They had blood work done tonight, which they didn't last night.  (and can I say how proud of my babies I am?  The first time they have ever had blood work done, and they took it like champs!  The best part of it was when the nurse put the needle in Shiloh's arm, she looked up at the nurse and with a dirty look she said "you oww me".  Kinda like the 2 year old version of WTF?)
Verdict?  Quinn's white blood cell count was up, other than that blood work was clear.  Ok good.  However, both have double ear infections, and a bad-bad case of gastro.

These past 2 days have been hell.  Lets see what tomorrow has in store for the Wilde family.
Over and out from puke land.

I hate vomit.

The past 2 days have been hell.  I mean hell!  There is a bug in my house, and it has taken my poor babies hostage.  It started at 2am Monday, and is still going on strong now which is noon on Tuesday.  We hunkered down all day yesterday when it was just vomit and...well you know.  But when they started getting a fever last night at about 8pm, off to the hospital we went.  We got there and signed in.  Before the triage nurse could see us Shiloh puked all_over_me.  OMG, it was so icky .  Once the triage nurse saw them, she rated them both a level 1 and we got right in to see the doctor.  (there was at least 50 other ppl ahead of us, but we jumped the line they were so sick)
Once back to the bed we were seem right away.  The nurse gave them both Tylenol up their tushies since they couldn't keep anything down.  The doctor then decided to get them to stop vomiting he would skip the graval and give them a medication they give to cancer patients when they get their chemotherapy treatments.  It worked so fast!  They then got to hang out and eat Pedialyte freezies and play with the nurses.  We were let go and came home with no puking babies :)  Now we are just dealing with the other end and what comes with that.  They both still have fevers today, and there is a lot of diaper changing going on.  Shiloh is having a nap on her little sofa in the living room, and Quinn is cuddled up to me as I type.

Oh, and just to gross you out a little, when I got home last night and took off my clothes, I had puke chunks in between my boobs.  Ah the joys of being a mommy.

You know it's a bad day when the kid pukes on the dog.

Like cleaning bedding, steam cleaning the carpets, my daughter puking down my back, my son puking on the kitchen counter wasn't bad enough, I just had to bathe the dog too.  Shiloh puked on the dog, the dog has long hair, nastiest thing ever!
Maybe I will write more later, but for now, it's puke city around here and  I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone else gets sick.

Living with toddlers

I just read this on another twin momma's blog (Confessions of a Twin Mom), and I thought that it was just to perfect (and so friggen funny) I had to share it!

Why Having A Toddler Is Like Being At A Frat Party

10. There are half-full, brightly-colored plastic cups on the floor in every room. Three are in the bathtub.

9. There's always that one girl, bawling her eyes out in a corner.

8. It's best not to assume that the person closest to you has any control over their digestive function.

7. You sneak off to the bathroom knowing that as soon as you sit down, someone's going to start banging on the door.

6. Probably 80% of the stains on the furniture contain DNA.

5. You've got someone in your face at 3 a.m. looking for a drink.

4. There's definitely going to be a fight.

3. You're not sure whether anything you're doing is right, you just hope it won't get you arrested.

2. There are crumpled-up underpants everywhere.

1. You wake up wondering exactly how and when the person in bed with you got there.

There were also some funny additions in the comment section!  Jewels like:  -At least one person is lying on the floor, either face up or face down, singing at the top of their lungs.  -Your one goal is to get someone in bed and, when you're finally successful, you're so tired all you want to do is go to sleep.  -All around you there is babbling and drooling, and at some point, someone will be drinking from the dog's bowl.  -Every time you turn around someone has taken off another article of clothing.  -There is always someone coming out of the closet wearing a boa and plastic heels.  -Someone is telling jokes that don't make sense and everyone is laughing hysterically anyway.  -You can't understand anything anyone is actually saying so you interpret wild gestures and intensity of screaming.  -If you sit down, chances are that someone will try to sit on your lap.  -There's always that one person who's just begging to be picked up.
